Psychedelic therapy’s legalization in Oregon is raising questions about whether or not the industry is prepared to offer it to patients.

Most of the early investment into psychedelic therapy was pharmacological: start ups and investors were focused almost entirely on drug development. The space became saturated quickly, despite there being no FDA approval for a psychedelic drug on the horizon.

All the attention and funding for pharmaceutical companies came at the expense of another crucial aspect: therapists. It’s becoming clear that there simply aren’t enough trained practitioners out there to deliver psychedelic therapy, nor is there a standard training protocol to ensure consistency.
